Top 10 lifetime travel experiences

If you aren’t sure where to plan your next adventure to, hopefully this will inspire you!  Here are what I deem to be the top 10 travel experiences of a lifetime. There are four of the seven wonders of the modern world on this list, but there are still several other sites that don’t need that title to be utterly intriguing.

1  The Northern Lights in IcelandDSC00445Nothing can quite compare with the experience of being wrapped up in a safety suit out at sea rocking in a boat looking up and watching the lights bow and wave in the sky.  This solar phenomena is a once in a lifetime view.

2  Petra, JordanFullSizeRenderAs you walk through the Siq around each bending, winding curve, it starts to peek out at you and when you finally come through the long entry cave, you stand and marvel at its magnificence.

3  Deadvlei, NamibiaIMG_1466There’s nothing like laying down in the clay pan and knowing you are in the most dead, dry desert in the world.

3  Machu Picchu, PeruIMG_4490As the bus arrives at the top, you can start to see the leveled terraces through the trees and excitement starts to pique.  When you arrive at the famous cliff where you can capture that iconic photo you feel like you are in a postcard.

4  Watching a volcano eruptIMG_3439This is something you can see in loads of places around the globe, but I was fortunate enough to see Fuego erupting in Guatemala.

5  The Taj MahalIMG_2264Nothing can prepare you for the magnitude of its size and the amount of land it encompasses.  In the searing heat it stands mighty and incredible.

6  Hot Air Ballon ride in CappadociaIMG_0743You can take hot air balloon rides in a lot of places, but as your balloon floats up and over the fairy chimneys you’ll be glad you got to see this natural marvel from the sky with the heat of the balloon keeping you warm on a frosty morning.

7  Seeing Mt. EverestIMG_1471As you approach the Himalayas from Kathmandu and see the tallest mountain growing larger in the distance you know you are in the presence of the highest, arguably one of the most dangerous peaks in the world.

8 Glaciers in PatagoniaIMG_5619Being in Patagonia, at the bottom of the world, seeing the massive glaciers and hearing them pop and crack as they break off into the water below is unforgettable.

9 Sunset in BaganIMG_1159Sitting perched atop a crumbling pagoda watching the sunset in this mostly deserted land with the sun dipping behind thousands of temples is breathtaking.

10 Seeing the Coliseum IMG_1968Landing in Rome and driving by the Coliseum and realizing that the Flavian amphitheater has been there nearly 2,000 years and still stands is incredible.

What do you think?  Have you been to one of these places?
