10 Oct Why you should skip Starbucks while abroad
Before anyone thinks this is a hipster soapbox post on the ethics of Starbucks, it’s not, I was a gold member when I left the US. My favorite drink was a grande non-fat Carmel macchiato.
Starbucks in great when you are in America, but when you are taking a trip abroad I would advise you to try any coffee other than Starbucks. Now that I’m back home the sugary thought of Starbucks makes me nauseous. I’ve had two pumpkin spice latte’s and it has been enough for a lifetime.
All around the world there are tons of other drinks that can satisfy a sweet-tooth, a caffeine jolt, or just give you a taste of local treats.
If you’re worried you’ll go into withdrawal, I’ve put together a list of the better alternatives for you to sample around the world:
- Sweet black Turkish tea
- A flat white anywhere in New Zealand and Australia
- A cappuccino anywhere in Europe
- A cafe con leche in Spain
- A frappe in Greece
- Any fruit or tea smoothie in Cambodia
- Thai tea in Thailand
- Chai tea in India – don’t skip the sugar
